'Meet the Press' host and political commentator Tim Russert dies suddenly at the age of 58.
Friday 06-13-2008 5:47pm ET
Tim Russert, NBC News’ Washington bureau chief, best-selling author, moderator and host of “Meet The Press,”and frequent guest on 'The Today Show', died suddenly Friday afternoon after collapsing at the Washington D.C. bureau, the network said. He was 58.
While recording a voice track for this Sunday's upcoming episode of 'Meet The Press', Russert suddenly collapsed and could not be revived by medical staff. Tom Brokaw announced the breaking news Friday afternoon. A devote Catholic, husband, father and Buffalo Bills fan, Russert will be deeply missed. President Bush issued a statement of condolence that praised the NBC newsman as "an institution in both news and politics for more than two decades. Tim was a tough and hardworking newsman. He was always well-informed and thorough in his interviews. And he was as gregarious off the set as he was prepared on it." He was also the senior vice president at NBC, and just this year, Time magazine named him one of the "100 Most Influential People In The World."
William F. Buckley Jr. passes away at age 82. The undisputed leader of the Conservative movement appeared in a memorable 1968 TV debate with Gore Vidal.
